K'Millian
Guess Who's Back??? K Millian!
Few would argue that K'millian's new album is not the hottest thing in Zambia. With enchanting melodies, touching lyrics, thumping beats... Leo Moyo presents yet another tight album.
Here's the review by Brokenhill...
K'Millian's sophomore album is a collection of some of the best contemporary R&B songs in vernacular that I have heard yet. I have listened to the songs over and over again and utterly enjoy them. K'Millian has 'soul'. His songs have smooth grooves and he sings with conviction. The adlibs seem well thought out - neat and tidy and not over the top as is the case with some of his peers. When he's telling stories, in songs that contain that ever so popular narrative element, he does so with care and presents them in a believable fashion.
All the songs are sung in Bemba with a pinch of Nyanja on some choruses (bar the last interlude, titled 'He Is', which is sung in English).
My favorites are 'Sembe', which features Kanji, a lady with a fabulous voice, and Nizakukonda, which to no surprise is a huge radio hit. Even when there are moments in the album where I feel that K'Millian should have surprised me as a listener with a bit of unpredictability, as at times his style is a bit constant throughout the CD, my overall and sincere feeling on his project is WOW. My optimism as far as the bright future of music being produced in Zambia has just been rekindled... yet again.
